Automation in Healthcare And Its Benefits

Home / Article & Blogs / Salesforce / Health Cloud / Automation in Healthcare And Its Benefits
By Rakesh Neelam inHealth Cloud, Salesforce

Healthcare is a massive industry with enormous growth over the last decade, but the adoption of automation in healthcare industry has been delayed. Paper-based manual procedures are at the core of every healthcare facility’s daily operations. They can reduce productivity. One of the most severe issues in healthcare is the inability to provide quality, affordable care and most importantly better patient experience.

As a result, many significant mistakes were made, compromising the healthcare provider’s compliance. Workers routinely spend time and resources on paper-based tasks due to inefficiencies in healthcare operations.

Therefore, by adopting healthcare automation, healthcare organizations can immediately boost the effectiveness of the treatment unit by substituting intelligent digital processes for labor-intensive operations. Ultimately, patients benefit from better healthcare since the staff is freed from tedious administrative tasks. Automation in healthcare increases the effectiveness and value of procedures in the healthcare sector.

Benefits of Automation In Healthcare

1. Low premiums

Implementing automated healthcare solutions can reduce costs. Automation makes this possible in several ways, including fewer errors, less overtime, and more efficiency. Automation allows practitioners to complete even more tasks in a single shift, reducing overall stress. Reducing overtime also allows staff to devote more time to patient care, which reduces the number of medical errors that require significant comparisons.

2. Electronic Health Record (EHR)

An electronic health record (EHR) is an electronic version of a patient’s medical record maintained over time by a provider and all key management related to that person’s care at a designated provider, including demographic data, progress records, problems, and drugs. Record clinical data. . , vital signs, medical history, immunizations, laboratory records, and radiology reports

Healthcare executives now have access to a wealth of actionable data from electronic health records that improve patient care. Managing the massive amount of data in electronic health records is a prime example of automated processes. Before data can be evaluated and utilized, IT professionals must clean the data. Data collection is only one aspect of healthcare automation. Healthcare professionals can use patient records to train AI systems, understand data on patient populations, conduct patient research, and improve care.

3. Internet of Things (IOT)

A few examples of how healthcare is being delivered outside of a clinic or hospital include smart watches, wearable medical devices, and smart thermometers. These devices monitor temperature, heart rate, pulse, and other vital signs to find disease clusters. The internet of things promises to use automation to collect this data for analysis (IoT).

4. Enhancing Patient Privacy

Acknowledging the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is crucial for safeguarding patients’ protected health information and personally identifiable information. By automating case management data, it is possible to ensure HIPAA compliance and limit access to sensitive health information to only those who are allowed.

5. Patient Satisfaction

Many factors, including the quality of care provided, influence patient satisfaction. Automated healthcare enables practitioners to improve patient engagement and experience in various ways. One example is implementing software that texts patients to reschedule appointments if they must miss one. Patients can book appointments at any time via a computer or mobile device, providing them more freedom to choose the times that suit them best.

6. Handling Insurance Claims

According to McKinsey, effective automation will eventually eliminate 30% of the costs associated with processing claims. Simply checking a claim’s status can take several minutes for a health plan employee. Healthcare providers can save hundreds of thousands in employee labor costs by applying intelligent automation to procedures like monitoring user account status.

7. Faster Payments

Healthcare providers can leverage intelligent automation to collect claims from insurance companies faster and easier. Providers faced a variety of challenges in getting paid for their services. Data extraction and aggregation can be done automatically using intelligent automation. Plus, it can do it with fewer errors and in the proper format for claim filing.

8. Monitor Compliance

Compliance is always of paramount importance to healthcare organizations. For legal, regulatory, reputational, and financial reasons, they must comply with all regulatory standards, especially concerning health information. To prevent unwanted access to patient data, intelligent automation can include role-based access controls. Furthermore, it is easy to satisfy audits and requests for specific data or reports thanks to the extensive and detailed data collected by intelligent robots.

9. Adaptability And Flexibility

Healthcare organizations are using machine learning (ML) to adjust staffing levels in response to rapidly increasing patient numbers, particularly in emergency departments.

Waiting times for outpatient services can be reduced with this automated feature.

For example, by examining past data from various sources, companies can better anticipate when they need to expand staff in preparation for an upcoming flu season.

More recently, practices have turned to automation to respond more quickly to changes brought about by the COVID-19 outbreak, such as social distancing adjustments and building occupancy limits. Another example of how automation can help healthcare organizations deal with changes in local regulations and even handle emergencies or office closures more effectively is messaging platforms that allow patients and employees to communicate with each other.

10. Enhanced Efficiency

The National Center for Biotechnology Information reported in research that “approximately 400,000 hospital patients incur some type of preventable illness each year,” with medical errors costing anywhere between $4 billion and $20 billion yearly.

The risk of human error is decreased with automated care by minimizing the human component. Additionally, there are many advantages to automating administrative procedures. Combining information from numerous sources may shorten lead times for appointments or surgeries. Healthcare facilities are able to serve more people thanks to automation’s greater dependability.

11. Improved Clinical Diagnosis

One of the key benefits of automation in healthcare is that it can improve clinical judgment and support evidence-based practice, combining clinical practice with research to determine the best methods of diagnosis and treatment. Research and diagnosis can be accelerated by AI trained on large datasets. AI is being used by physicians to complement, rather than replace, their treatment decisions and improve their clinical judgment.

Conclusion

Healthcare automation should be prioritized for the greatest advantages because it seldom reduces the workforce. Cost savings, improved patient satisfaction, and increased staff productivity are all advantages. Healthcare jobs may be automated in many ways, so it’s important to focus on the ones that will have the most impact.
